We will provide an overview of the new working group’s aims and objectives, and offer a platform for member discussion of our plans for the first 6 months and the group’s potential outputs.
As with all other BEI working group streams, we are launching this new thematic working group in response to our discussions with BEI members and their international stakeholders. On one hand, there is a great need to build resilience in the water sector; on the other hand, UK organisations have a serious and innovative international offer in this space; BEI, through this working group, can provide a platform for engagement and capacity building with relevant policymakers and funders supporting water sustainability and resilience.
As a result of Climate Change, the water cycle has become disrupted around the globe, and countries find themselves with an increasing need to ensure resilience in water systems for communities and industrial objects. From increased instances of drought, flooding and storm surges, to pollution and sea level rise, we are seeing unprecedented frequency and impact of the water cycle’s disruption directly affecting the most vulnerable.
For this session, we are delighted to be joined by a panel made up of BEI members from some of the organisations that will be helping steer this working group: Atkins, Gleeds, HR Wallingford and WRc.
They will each set out their organisation’s objectives and priorities for this group, and the chaired discussion in the second half of the session will provide direct input into the group’s Terms of Reference and operating plan.
