British Expertise International continues its engagement on Ukraine recovery and reconstruction with a virtual panel event providing practical advice from UK organisations already active there.
While the international community has pledged significant emergency assistance to Ukraine, a broader mobilisation of public and private sectors is needed to meet the scale of Ukraine’s stabilisation and recovery needs following Russian attacks. The extensive damage inflicted on Ukraine by Russia continues to necessitate significant investment in Ukraine’s reconstruction by the UK and its allies, as well as technical assistance to enable progress.
The private sector can play a leading role by applying its expertise in supporting Ukraine's recovery; however, this is a very complex operating environment and organisations can be more effective through collaboration and partnership. Our panel will include organisations who are already operating in Ukraine, to support knowledge-sharing with other UK organisations seeking to support Ukraine’s recovery.
Our speakers will share their expertise and recent experience in key areas including risk, security, insurance and contracting.
Security consultants Spearfish will discuss the practicalities and mechanisms of travelling to Ukraine, where to stay in Kiev and Dnipro, and current risks from the security side. They will also provide an overview of the mechanisms for doing business in the country from their recent first-hand experience of setting up a legal entity in Ukraine, registering for VAT and attaining work permits.
Legal firm Beale Law, specialists in the construction and insurance industries, will speak to some of the practicalities of how the private sector can contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction. For example, what form of contracts should companies be adopting? How to find project opportunities in Ukraine? Supply chains are another important consideration; as a multinational engineering company, should you be using local contractors or seconding staff? If local contractors – how can organisations get in touch with them, and is there local capacity? They will also speak to some of the initiatives at EU level and provide thoughts on multilateral cooperation and contracting options.
We will then hear from an insurance specialist on the challenges and solutions of getting insurance cover, from their direct experience of underwriting policies in Ukraine for UK organisations in the recent months, explaining practical steps and types of cover available.
