As Morocco prepares host the African Cup in 2025 and to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, there is huge space for UK businesses to collaborate on exciting new projects across the infrastructure landscape.
We will be joined by UK Department of Business and Trade to speak about these new opportunities. The session will focus on opportunities for UK firms in the Transport sector and provide an overview of the infrastructure landscape more generally.
Ahead of the 2030 World Cup, Morocco will need to construct new stadiums, upgrade existing infrastructure and enhance city connectivity. The Moroccan government is taking measures to attract investment through Public Private Partnerships, tourism promotion and investment incentives.
Alongside this, the 2030 FIFA World Cup serves as a catalyst for urban regeneration projects around Moroccan cities. Smart cities, mixed use developments and protecting cultural heritage will be key to urban development initiatives. There is a large commitment to sustainability for these new developments, with a large focus on responsible resource usage and minimal negative environmental impact.
Recent research into public procurement opportunities in Morocco identified 12 priority opportunities constituting a total value of $22-29bn by 2030, of which up to up to $1.3-1.9bn could be realistically taken by UK firms.
The UK Department for Business and Trade will be leading a UK Trade Mission to Morocco in May 2024, tailored to Transport and Construction, and we will also provide an overview of the planned engagements in this session.
