Carbon Tracker is an independent financial think tank that carries out in-depth analysis on the impact of the energy transition on capital markets. Using their team of global financial market, and energy and legal experts, they apply research and map risk and opportunity for investors interested in a low-carbon future. Utilizing scenario analysis to examine the potential changes to supply and demand for carbon intensive energy and fossil fuel companies and projects, their modes of analysis enable investors to understand the financial implications of navigating the climate crisis. As they are a non for profit think house, they hold the ability to conduct research free from commercial bias.
We will be joined by Simon Perham, Head of Investor Outreach Europe, and Harry Benham, Advisor, from Carbon Tracker to speak about their models of analysis and provide their views on the energy transition. They will also share with us their insights on their upcoming report on energy transition.
Carbon Tracker has the view that capital markets are failing to align the capital allocation process, exposing the owners of fossil fuel companies – their shareholders – to potential lost value, as has already been witnessed in the EU utilities and US coal mining sectors. Potentially, companies have not sufficiently factored in the possibility that future demand could be significantly reduced by technological advances and changing policy. In this session, we will discuss how the new energy system is hugely different to the current and what they believe is the inevitability of the energy transition. Alongside this, they will discuss the casualties, obstacles and opportunities presented by the energy transition.
Join us in this session as we discuss the future of the energy transition and the necessity of green investment.
This event is free to attend for members and non-members alike.
