British Expertise International is delighted to be joined by representatives from the Department of International Trade in Peru and the British Peruvian Chamber of Commerce, as we hear the latest overview of their strategy on infrastructure development and climate resilience and adaptation and the current innovations implemented.
Peru has a strong emerging market economy, as its economy has recovered its GDP level and has remained its pre-pandemic levels since mid-2021, much earlier than predicted and above the Latin American average.
An important part for development in Peru is centred around a conjunction between infrastructural and climate resilient adaptation projects and programmes. Infrastructure and climate resilience are critical to both encouraging and protecting development. This is well exemplified with the Peru Reconstruction programme, developed under a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement between Peru and the UK, which is rebuilding critical national infrastructure that was severely damaged during the El Niño phenomenon of 2017. With the technical support and capability building of the UK Delivery Team, the Reconstruction Authority is leading the reconstruction of a portfolio of 74 schools, 15 hospitals and healthcare facilities, and the construction of flood-prevention infrastructure for river basins, drainage systems and gullies, valued at £1.7million. This clearly demonstrates both the opportunities for UK exporters in these critical, overlapping sectors and the ability to do business in the Peruvian market.
