Nature-based Solutions are increasingly becoming ever more important for combatting the wide-ranging effects of climate change. However, the concept is yet to fully break into mainstream consideration amongst international policy makers and public sector stakeholders. As the steadily increasing impacts of climate change become more intense, it is critical that stakeholders from across the climate space have a full understanding and insight into the important role that NbS can play. Following on from the publication by the BEI NbS Working Group’s first report, the Working Group is now delighted to deliver their first event explaining the capabilities of UK exporters in this space.
Whilst the findings of the most recent IPCC report were stark, forecasting an acceleration of climate change on current trajectories, there remain multiple solutions to mitigate and adapt to some of the most damming effects. Central to this were approaches by using Nature-based Solutions, mentioned over 450 times in the report. This event will seek to break down the concept of NbS, showcase UK organisation’s application of NbS domestically and internationally and provide key insights into how it can provide increasingly popular solutions to the climate crisis.
We are delighted to be joined by Dr Jenny Mant, Ricardo Energy & Environment, who will give a presentation on the use of NbS within the UK, Charles Reeve, Tetra Tech International Development on the CORB Fund in the Okavango Basin in Southern Africa and a presentation from the BEI NbS Co-Chair, Emma Davies, Senior Partnerships Manager, Nature Based Solutions, Palladium, who will share lessons about adapting a tropical NbS model in the UK context.
In November 2021, the NbS Working Group produced a report examining the product of NbS as a UK export. Showcasing a range of case studies from all members of the group, the report emphasised the need to increase the awareness of NbS as both an important tool in tackling the impacts of climate change, and also as a UK export to emerging and developing economies.
The NbS Working Group brings together a cross-section of companies that offer the full spectrum of expertise related to helping global, national, and local clients meet the challenge of preparing for increasing climate impacts, loss of biodiversity and natural disasters. Members have critical expertise and diverse experience in delivering solutions to better manage and sustainably restore nature and the environment across different geographies and sectors.
