After a difficult number of years for the region in terms of economic growth activity, the GCC economies returned to an increased growth rate of 2.6% in 2021. Their robust recovery, which is due to stronger oil prices and the growth of non-oil sectors, will accelerate in 2022 as OPEC mandated oil production cuts are phased out and higher oil prices improve business sentiment and attract additional investment.

There is a tremendous amount of activity in the region especially the infrastructure sector with a range of giga and mega projects under way. There is also a focus on moving to cleaner energy sources, and the region’s dependency on oil requires serious diversification options. Additionally, there is an increased diversification to manufacturing, real estate, banking and trade alongside the development of the goods and services sectors.
The region is also increasingly seen as an easier place to conduct business, with countries across the gulf enacting wide ranging financial and structural reforms to help support business dealings. Whilst some challenges remain, typically due to the overarching nature of the governments, the region is increasingly seen as an attractive place to conduct business.
