Join us as we welcome Melinda Simmons DCMG, His Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine on Friday 16th June from 11:40-12:40 BST.
Now in its second year, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a tragedy with far-reaching human and economic impacts. Ukraine’s operating, recovery, and reconstruction needs are staggering. It is estimated that Ukraine needs $11 billion for repairs and essential services in 2023 alone
Despite the extreme circumstances being faced in the country, GDP projected to grow by 0.5% in 2023 after contracting about 30% in 2022
Global support for Ukraine spanning security, infrastructure and humanitarian challenges continues has underpinned all aspects of Ukrainian society, with (for example) direct sipport for providing wages for hospital workers, government and school employees, pensions for the elderly, salaries for public servants, and social programs for the vulnerable.
The UK has, from the outset, been at the very front of the international support provided to Ukraine.
Melinda Simmons is His Majesty’s Ambassador to Ukraine. She was first appointed to this role in September 2019.
She joined DFID in 2003, and her career has spanned roles across both DFID and FCO. Critically, her roles have covered responsibilities across humanitarian crises, conflict and national security.
