The urgency of addressing the climate crisis has spurred the need for innovative financial instruments to facilitate mitigation and adaptation efforts, as the volumes of finance must increase many times over and rapidly to support a systemic transition to low carbon and climate resilience development pathways. To achieve this shift, there is a necessity for new types of finance and investors, as well as using significant concessional finance in a more catalytic way to raise private sector capital.
Traditional financing mechanisms can fall short in adequately addressing the scale and complexity of the issues posed by climate-related issues. In order to harness the power of financial markets to mobilise green finance and incentivise sustainable practices, there is a huge need for new innovative financial instruments to aid this transition. Innovative financial instruments, such as green bonds, climate-focused venture capital funds and carbon pricing mechanisms, can help bridge the funding gap by channelling capital towards environmentally sustainable projects and technologies.
Having recently published our report, “Accelerating Climate Finance – a view from UK-based Specialist Providers”, on the role of climate finance in supporting mitigation and adaptation efforts to address the climate crisis, this session will delve into approaches to build capacity and respond to these issues.
We hear from climate finance experts from Ricardo, Deloitte and Adam Smith International as they showcase thought leadership and efforts to utilise innovative financial instruments to support a transition to a sustainable future.
