We are delighted to be hosting Darren Welch the FCDO Director of Global Health for a presentation and discussionon FCDO’s global health priorities as the UK continues to be a key player in health on the global stage.
Health remains a key global priority, especially more so in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Supporting global health is also prioritised in the Integrated Review and is one of the seven global challenges identified in the integrated review.
The FCDO global health priorities including policy and delivery focus on among other areas ending the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthening global health security, and working toward ending preventable deaths of mothers, children, and new-borns.
The 2021 WHO World Health Statistics provides some insights into the challenges being faced globally. As the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact continues to unfold the report found that “critical inequalities have surfaced, demanding global cooperation and concerted action to be better prepared to respond to this and other global health threats.” Whilst the commitment to “leave no one behind” is a foundation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the obvious high and rising inequalities are obstacles in the work around population health and human, social, and economic development.
This webinar will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
