The International Education Strategy is a policy paper which sets out the UK government’s ambition for education exports and how the UK government will support the UK education sector in accessing global opportunities. Since the Strategy’s first publication in 2019 by DfE and DIT, it has seen 2 revisions in 2021 and 2022.The Strategy sets out 2 ambitions to achieve by 2030:
1. Increase education exports to £35 billion per year
2. Increase the numbers of international higher education students studying in the UK to 600,000 per year
Sarah Chidgey, Head of International Education at DIT, and Sian Sinnott, Team leader for International Education Strategy at DfE are directly involved in writing the IES, and will seek input from Education members on its future direction. They will also provide:
- an overview of the International Education Strategy and an update on the Strategy’s direction going forward,
- the International Education Strategy’s main stakeholders and themes for 2023,
- DIT’s priority markets in education and upcoming programme of engagement,
- what next’ for the Strategy, including a chaired discussion between DIT and DfE with Education members on their feedback on K12, TVET, and Higher Education and experiences with the IES to date
