Kazakhstan is at a critical point in addressing climate change, with projections indicating that temperatures in the region will rise at a faster rate than the global average and faster than most other Asian nations. In response, Kazakhstan has made significant commitments towards sustainability, adopting the carbon neutrality strategy for 2060 in 2023. Kazakhstan is actively advancing sources of renewable energy, notably in on-shore wind, and promoting a low-carbon development agenda.
To support these efforts, Kazakhstan has adopted a National Infrastructure Plan until 2029, identifying 204 projects across energy, transport, digital, and water sectors. These modernisation projects are projected to require $150 billion in foreign direct investment, presenting substantial opportunities for UK businesses.
The UK’s commitment to be a clean energy superpower and decarbonisation journey to date presents a unique opportunity to share valuable experiences and insights.
The panel session aims to bring together government and business stakeholders from both Kazakhstan and the UK to facilitate an in-depth discussion on ways to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and industry. Participants will share insights into the country’s plans, identify key challenges, and explore potential areas for collaboration and investment.
