Brazil is the largest South American economy with a strong business base, modern banking system and expanding consumer market. On 20th July join us for an in-depth discussion with the British Embassy team in Brazil covering socio-political updates as well as business opportunities for UK businesses in infrastructure and education sectors.
We will be joined by British Ambassador to Brazil Peter Wilson CMG, Department forInternational Trade (DIT) Country Director Martin Whalley, DIT Head ofInfrastructure Brazil Luiz Nanô, and DIT Head of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean Bárbara Lotierzo.
Brazil and the UK have long historical ties in trade and investment, and under the current government, the business environment for exporters should improve further. TheCovid-19 pandemic hit Brazil as the country was recovering from a recession in2014-16, resulting not only in huge adverse impact on the fiscal policy and healthcare systems, but in jeopardising years of progress in poverty reduction and human capital accumulation. Brazil is also one of the countries that have had the longest public schools’ closures to date, which is disproportionately affecting the poorer part of the population and is estimated to raise learning poverty from 48 to 70 per cent. Brazil is also highly exposed to climate risks and the transition to a greener economy isa challenge. For British exporters, the main opportunities in Brazil are in oil and gas, renewables, fintech, and education.
The presenters will share insights into opportunities for UK businesses and share details of some projects at planning stage where there are opportunities to get involved.
