Following the Overseas Development Institute’s (ODI) report on ‘LearnAdapt: a synthesis of our work on adaptive programming with DFID/FCDO (2017–2020)’ we will hear from members of the LearnAdapt team on lessons learned from their work with DFID/FCDO and reflections on what’s next for adaptive management within FCDO, especially within the context of a rapidly changing environment.

In the face of the Covid-19 crisis, Adaptive Management, the process of robust decision-making in the face on uncertainty, has been more important than ever. Alina Rocha Menocal, Jamie Pett, Emma Proud, and Ed Laws, produced this report on the LearnAdapt programme which examined the areas in the programming cycle that were key to the effective application of adaptive management.
The LearnAdapt programme was a three-year collaboration between Better Delivery and Emerging Policy, Innovation, Capability (EPIC) Departments of the FCDO (formerly DFID), ODI, Brink, Feedback Labs and the Centre for Public Impact (CPI). The programme ran from April 2017 to November 2020 and ran in close collaboration with FCDO/DFID to create systems and processes that contributed to an environment that enabled adaptive programming for improved development effectiveness.
